Connex is a trademark of MobiFon SA, the company that launched the first GSM network in Romania, on April, 1997. The members of the consortium were: Telesystem International Wireless Services - Canada (62%), AirTouch Communications - U.S.A. (10%), Romanian Mail Company, Logic Telecom, Ana Electronic, ISAF SA, and Romanian Investment Fund - Romania (28%).
MobiFon SA offered a subscription based service (Connex) and two prepaid services (Connex Go! and Kamarad).
The structure of shareholders was:
2000: Telesystem International Wireless Services (54.7%), Vodafone (20.1%), Romanian Mail Company (5%), RomGSM (14.4%), others (5.8%)
2003: Telesystem International Wireless Services (63.54%), Vodafone (20.1%), Deraso Holding BV (14.4%), others (1.96%)
2004: Telesystem International Wireless Services (79%), Vodafone (20.1%), Dargate Limited (0.9%)
In June 2005 Vodafone reached an agreement to major its participation at 100%.
Vodafone Romania offers a subscription based service (Vodafone) and a prepaid service (Cartela Vodafone).
